洋楽で一番好きな曲

学生の時によく聴いていた。

車を運転するようになってからは、カセットテープの時代もcdになってからも運転しながら何百回も歌った。下手くそだけど。

でも、どうしても歌詞の意味が分からないところがあった。この曲好きなんだよね〜なんて、軽い気持ちで金髪碧眼の20代アメリカ人男子に聞かせたこともある。

歌詞の意味も知らないで、迂闊にそんなことしちゃダメですね。数十年経ってからある日突然車中で、天啓が閃いたかのごとく舞い降りてきました。

歌詞の意味が。とても恥ずかしくて、ここには書けませんが、とても色っぽい意味でした。

私に無理矢理この歌を聞かされた、あの時のアメリカ人男子は何を思ったことでしょう。

無知って怖い。

アメリカのハイスクールの学生たちが本格的にパーティーデビューをする場で、この女の子は壁の花。

バンドの男の子たちの側にいる。

スクールカースト上位の女子達はフランス製の服なんかで着飾っている。だから気後れして入っていけない。自分の手の平をお尻の下に置いて椅子にずっと座っている。

でも、本当は踊りが大好き。ものすごく上手なの。外の通りで踊っている私は世界一。

本当は踊りたいの。
